Regional brands damaged by Catalan referendum, says report

While 2017 is over, its many tumultuous events remain fresh in the mind. From disasters to scientific breakthroughs to a move towards global gender equality, perhaps one of the most reported-on events was another referendum. When, on October 1, the people of the Catalan region voted for overall independence from Spain, the vote was declared illegal. This has not, however, stopped the people of Catalan protesting their right to democracy.

Manchester's digital direction

When you think of Manchester, it’s likely a plethora of popular cultural icons spring to mind. Oasis, the Smiths, legendary artist L.S. Lowry, and author of A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess, are all notable figures hailing from the Northern city. While such figures have been instrumental in placing it on the UK cultural map, competition from London sees Manchester's reputation as a business-oriented city less well-discussed. Yet this may be set to change in the next few years.

In Dublin's fair city

“In Dublin’s fair city/Where the girls are so pretty/I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone.” So begins the song often regarded as the unofficial anthem to the city of Dublin, Ireland. In myth, the words echo around the capital’s cobbled streets; it’s a chant which has traversed the Irish Sea to be sung at many a football fixture. Yet this tradition is a mere beginning to Ireland’s historic association with words, a country which offers the world a plethora of writing flair.
